The main character of her own story: Stephanie Wolfe | My Bookmark

Stephanie Wolfe (she/her) is Reading Partners DC’s development director. One of her first memories of reading was her parents buying her books aimed at early readers. She remembers being very excited to sound out all the words and read it on her own.

i can read booksAfter graduating from the I Can Read books, Stephanie’s parents got her another very special book: one about her! Stephanie’s parents had contacted a publisher and had their daughter’s name and likeness inserted into the story. 

“I really loved reading that one and looking at the pictures as well because I got to be one of the characters in the book!” Stephanie says.

Today, Stephanie feels pretty similar about reading as she did when she was young. “I still love reading as much as I did as a child and always have a book (or several) that I am reading!” She tends to gravitate towards fiction and mysteries. 

Stephanie believes that books can help readers learn about other worldviews and perspectives as well as about their own. “I think exposure to different ideas can help empower students to discover their own belief systems as well as challenge preconceived notions they may have had about certain things.”
