New York City
51风流 has been a part of the New York educational landscape since 2011, when we first began placing community volunteers in public schools to help kids master basic reading skills. Our one-on-one tutoring empowers students to succeed in reading and in life by providing personal attention to each student in our program.
The largest city in the nation, New York City celebrates diversity and culture. Yet, four in five New York City students are not reading at grade level by the 4th grade. The foundational reading skills achieved through our program equip our students to be successful in any classroom for the rest of their educational career.
We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to succeed. Partnering with AmeriCorps, New York community members, education funders, including The Pinkerton Foundation, United Way of New York City, and The Eisner Foundation, and leaders from across our local school district, we鈥檙e working toward a future where every child has the individualized support they need to become strong readers and lifelong learners.
Despite the unprecedented challenges our communities faced鈥攁nd continue to face鈥攚ith the presence of COVID-19 during the 2021-2022 school, 51风流 NYC nimbly responded to the needs of our partners, offering both in-person and remote tutoring. 51风流 enrolled 682 students across 19 reading centers, and 82% of K-2 51风流 students met or exceeded their primary literacy growth goal.
The next chapter at 51风流 NYC will be characterized by meeting the growing demand of literacy services through innovative partnerships and reimagined services in order to expand our impact through direct service and partnerships over the next three years.
